You send a booking request from our site with your dates, pickup point and car class. The owner reviews availability and confirms by email or message. A request isn't an instant booking — the owner checks the car is free for your dates and replies to confirm. Confirmation is usually quick, often within a few hours during the day. To secure a specific car class in peak summer months, request as early as you can. You'll get the final price and pickup details on confirmation.

Bring a valid passport or national ID and a valid driving licence for the main driver, plus any extra driver. EU and most national licences are accepted for tourists; an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended for some non-Latin-alphabet licences. The main driver is generally expected to be at least 21. Younger drivers, or those just over the limit, can sometimes rent smaller economy or compact classes, while premium, SUV and van categories may have a higher age requirement. As a rule, the driver should have held a full licence for at least one to two years. This applies to the main driver and any additional driver. Montenegro's coast and mountain roads are winding, so genuine driving experience matters. If you're newly licensed, mention it when you request — we'll let you know which car classes we can confirm for you.

Yes. Just tell us when you request the booking so the extra driver is declared in advance. Each additional driver must meet the same age and licence-experience requirements and bring their own passport or ID and valid licence to pickup. Any fee for an extra driver is shown transparently at booking, with no online prepayment.

Possibly. Drivers close to the minimum age, or with fewer licence years, may be limited to economy and compact classes rather than premium or larger SUV and van categories, and a young-driver surcharge can apply. Anything like this is shown transparently at booking — never a surprise at pickup. Just declare the driver's age and experience when you request.

Yes — Montrent offers free cancellation, and because you pay at pickup there's no online prepayment to refund. If your dates, pickup point or car class change, message us and we'll re-check availability and reconfirm. For changes during peak summer, let us know as early as possible so we can hold the right car class for you.

You pay at pickup — there's no online prepayment. When you book, you reserve the car and see the full price upfront, but nothing is charged to your card in advance. You settle the rental when we hand over the keys at the airport or your chosen city. Cancellation is free if plans change.

All prices are in euros (EUR). We accept major credit and debit cards as well as cash in euros for the rental balance. For the security deposit, however, a credit card in the main driver's name is normally required, since the deposit is placed as a card pre-authorisation. Exact accepted cards are confirmed at booking and pickup.

The deposit is held as a pre-authorisation (a temporary block) on your credit card, not an actual charge. The amount depends on the car class and is shown at booking. We release it after you return the car undamaged with the same fuel level. Once released, your bank typically clears the hold within a few business days.

Every rental includes standard Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and theft protection. These cap your financial liability in case of accident or theft, but they leave an excess (deductible) — the amount you remain responsible for. The excess and any conditions are shown clearly at booking. Tyres, glass and the car's underside are often excluded from standard cover.

Yes. You can add an optional full-coverage upgrade that lowers — and in most cases removes — the excess from the standard CDW and theft cover. It can also reduce the deposit we need to block. The upgrade is a flat per-day add-on shown transparently at booking, so you can choose it before you confirm. It buys peace of mind on Montenegro's winding coastal roads.

We use a fair full-to-full policy: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full. There's no fuel pre-payment and no refuelling fee when you bring it back full — you only pay for the fuel you actually use. Keep your last receipt and top up near the return point; petrol stations are easy to find around Tivat, Podgorica and the coast.

Our rentals come with a generous mileage allowance that suits normal touring around Montenegro — the coast, Kotor Bay, Lovćen and day trips north. The exact allowance for your car and dates is shown at booking, with any extra-kilometre rate stated upfront. If you plan a high-mileage road trip, tell us and we'll confirm the best option before you confirm.

Your booking total shows the price transparently before you confirm, with no hidden charges. A few situational costs can apply: optional extras (child seats, additional driver, full-coverage upgrade), a cross-border fee or green card if you've declared travel to allowed neighbouring countries, and road tolls you pay yourself — mainly the Sozina tunnel (around €3.50 for a car). Everything chargeable is set out at booking.

We deliver the car to you. At Tivat (TIV) and Podgorica (TGD) airports a driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign, hands over the keys, and walks you through the car. In cities like Budva, Kotor, Bar, Herceg Novi and Podgorica we deliver to your hotel or address. Just share your flight number or location at booking. See all (/locations).

Yes. Many flights into Tivat (/locations/tivat-airport) and Podgorica land late, so we arrange out-of-hours and night handovers around your arrival. Give us your real flight number at booking so our driver tracks delays and is waiting even if you land early or late. There may be a small after-hours fee, always shown at booking before you confirm.

Yes, cancellation is free and there is no online prepayment, you pay at pickup. If your plans shift, contact us to change dates, car class, or pickup location and we'll rework the details. Because nothing is charged in advance, cancelling costs you nothing. Just let us know ahead of your pickup time so we can free up the car.

Yes, to allowed neighbouring countries when you declare it at booking. We then prepare the right paperwork, including a green card for insurance abroad. A cross-border fee may apply and is shown at booking. Please don't take the car across a border without telling us first, as that voids your cover. Tell us your route and we'll set it up.

Yes. You can pick up in one place and drop off in another, for example collect at Tivat airport and return in Podgorica, or start in Budva and finish in Kotor. Choose different pickup and return points when you book. A one-way fee may apply depending on the distance, and it's shown transparently at booking before you confirm.

Yes. Add child or booster seats, an extra driver, or other extras when you book, and they'll be fitted and ready at handover. Child restraints are legally required for young children in Montenegro, so reserve the right size in advance as stock is limited in summer. Extra prices are shown at booking. First make sure everyone is safe and turn on hazard lights. For any accident in Montenegro, call the police on 122 and get a police report, as insurers require it. Then call us; the number is on your rental agreement and in the glovebox. Photograph the scene, damage, and other vehicles. For a breakdown, pull over safely and contact us for roadside help.

Montenegro has almost no toll roads. The main exception is the Sozina tunnel between Bar and Podgorica, around €3.5 for a car, paid in cash or card at the booth. In old towns like Kotor, Budva and Sveti Stefan you can't drive inside the walls, so use the paid lots just outside and walk in. Pay parking by zone in coastal towns during summer.
