Drive times from Kotor
Distances around the bay are short, but the coastal road is winding, so times shift with traffic and the season.
- Tivat Airport: about 25 minutes, traffic-dependent
- Perast: about 15 minutes along the bay
- Budva: about 30 minutes over the hills
One 2026 note: works at the Vrmac tunnel through the summer may slow some approaches to Kotor, so it is worth leaving a little extra time, especially around peak hours.
Getting around and parking
Kotor's old town is entirely pedestrian, so you will not drive inside the walls. Parking is in lots arranged outside the fortifications, and from there it is a short walk through the gates into the historic core.
A few practical points:
- Leave the car in a lot outside the walls and explore the old town on foot
- Spaces near the entrance fill up fastest in summer, so arriving earlier helps
- Once you are parked, the rest of the bay is an easy drive away

A local tip
Kotor rewards an early start. The narrow lanes and the climb up to the fortress above town are quietest in the morning, before the day's visitors arrive and before the heat builds.
With your own car you can follow the bay at your own pace: a slow loop past Perast, a coffee with a view of the islets, then back to Kotor before the lots fill.
