Drive times from Tivat Airport (TIV)
Tivat sits right on the bay, so many of Montenegro's best-loved destinations are a short, scenic drive away. All times below are approximate and depend heavily on traffic and the season:
- Kotor — about 25-30 minutes
- Budva — about 30-40 minutes
- Herceg Novi — about 45 minutes via the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry, or roughly an hour driving around the bay
One 2026 note: reconstruction work on the Vrmac tunnel can slow the Kotor route over the summer, so allow a little extra time and don't be surprised by short delays.
Getting around and parking
Driving is by far the easiest way to explore this part of Montenegro — the coastal road is spectacular, and having your own car means you can stop wherever the view tempts you. The roads around the bay are narrow and winding in places, so take your time and enjoy the scenery rather than rushing.
Parking in the old towns of Kotor and the centre of Budva can be tight in peak season, so it's worth using signposted car parks just outside the historic cores and walking in. A local tip
If your plans include the western side of the bay around Herceg Novi, the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry is a genuine shortcut and a small experience in itself — a quick crossing that saves you the longer loop around the water.
