See the full fleet

Herceg Novi sits in the north-west corner of the Bay of Kotor, a sun-trap of a town built on stone steps and famous for its sea-front promenade, mimosa and Mediterranean greenery. Tucked close to the Croatian border, it's a natural base for guests crossing in from Dubrovnik or working their way down the bay. We make picking up a car here simple: we meet you with the car, hand over the keys, and you're off.

How pickup works

There are no counter queues and no online prepayment with Montrent. Tell us where and when you'd like the car, and we meet you there with it.

  • We greet you at your hotel, apartment, or an agreed spot in town
  • You pay at pickup — nothing is charged in advance
  • Free cancellation if your plans change
  • Full-to-full fuel, so what you collect is what you return

Browse our fleet before you arrive and we'll have the right car waiting.

Drive times from Herceg Novi

Distances around the bay depend a lot on traffic and the season, so treat these as rough guides:

  • Kotor — about 40 minutes, using the Kamenari–Lepetane ferry across the bay rather than the long road around
  • Croatian (Dubrovnik) border — about 20 minutes, traffic-dependent
  • Tivat Airport (TIV) — about 40 minutes

Many of our guests fly into Dubrovnik Airport just over the border and start their trip from there. If you're connecting through Montenegro's own airports instead, see Tivat Airport or Podgorica Airport.

Getting around and parking

Herceg Novi's old town is steep and largely pedestrian — beautiful to wander, but not somewhere you'll drive. The car comes into its own the moment you head out of town: along the coast toward Kotor and Budva, or across the border for a day trip.

A few practical notes:

  • Park on the edge of the centre rather than trying to reach the seafront core by car
  • The coastal road is winding and scenic; allow extra time and enjoy it
  • For longer hauls down the coast, the main road links smoothly toward Budva and beyond

A local tip

The Kamenari–Lepetane ferry is the locals' shortcut across the mouth of the bay and the reason Kotor is only about 40 minutes away rather than a long loop by road. It runs frequently and is an easy, scenic crossing — just join the queue and drive on.

If it's your first time driving in the country, our short guide to driving in Montenegro covers tolls, ferries, and the quirks of the coastal roads. With the car delivered to you and nothing to prepay, you can step off your flight or out of your apartment and simply start exploring the bay.
